Beating the 3 PM Slump: Lunch Ideas for Desk Workers

If your energy falls off a cliff every afternoon, your lunch is often the reason. Here’s what we’ve learned feeding office teams.

Most offices have the same afternoon: a big lunch around 1:30, a meeting at 3, and half the room fighting to stay awake. It feels like a sleep problem, but it’s often a food problem.

Why the slump happens

A heavy, refined-carb lunch with little protein or fibre digests quickly. Energy spikes and then drops. Add long hours sitting and not much water, and the 3 PM wall arrives right on time.

What a better desk lunch looks like

  • A clear protein source: dal, paneer, chickpeas, eggs or chicken.

  • Fibre from vegetables and whole grains or millets.

  • A sensible portion. Full, not stuffed.

  • Water with the meal, not just another coffee after it.

For HR and people teams

Small changes add up across a team. Healthier default options in the canteen, a regular meal delivery or a nutrition session can shift habits more than a one-off wellness week. We work with companies on exactly this.
